Book 49: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry
I read Seven Brief Lessons on Physics earlier this year and enjoyed it. I’m reading Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s book because, with finals going on, I am somewhat short on time. That, and I’m interested in learning more about astrophysics.
Book 50: Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty
Why are some nations rich and others poor, divided by wealth and poverty, health and sickness, food and famine? In Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James A Robinson address what makes a nation successful (or not). It is based on fifteen years of original research, resulting in a new theory of political economy. I have heard great things about it, and I’m very excited to read it.
Book 51: The Undoing Project: A Friendship That Changed Our Minds
The Undoing Project is about psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky who invented behavioral economics and how their theory of the mind altered our perception of reality. The first time I learned about these two was when I read Misbehaving by Nobel Prize-winning economist Richard Thaler earlier this year.
Book 52: Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges
This will be the final book I read in 2017. I’ll let the title speak for itself. I chose this book because I’m looking forward to the challenges I face in 2018, and I want to learn more about being prepared for them.
Hope you’ll be reading with me!
