Book 45: How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character

I’m curious about childhood development and how kids’ formative experiences affect them later in life. In How Children Succeed, Paul Tough “uncovers the surprising ways in which parents do—and do not—prepare their children for adulthood… And he provides us with new insights into how to help children growing up in poverty.”

Book 46: What Happened

I will be reading this around the one year anniversary of the 2016 election. I proudly supported Hillary Clinton, and I’m looking forward to reading her account of what happened in an extraordinarily contentious and unpredictable election.

Book 47: Principles: Life and Work

In Principles, Ray Dalio, the founder of the legendary investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, shares his unique tenents for success. He is known for a “radically transparent” management style that encourages employees to seek the absolute truth and challenge one another. I look forward to learning how he has led an extraordinarily successful life, and how I can apply those lessons.

Book 48: Globalization: A Very Short Introduction

Globalization is increasingly coming under fire – why? Globalization: A Very Short Introduction explores this question and gives an overview of the processes of globalization. A friend who teaches a sociology course at UC-Berkeley recommended Globalization to me.

That’s it for this month. I hope you’ll be reading with me!
